Education

Education a key to the Future

For AGFUND, education is a key to the future. It is the basis and the roots of continuous human and economic development. Nations seeking a place in the third millennium, need to support and encourage good educational systems by which they can prepare, qualify and trains their manpower to face the difficulties and demands of the era. For that reason, AGFUND seeks always to promote the spread of quality education. By these means it consequently supports and finances educational projects that combat illiteracy by implementing projects that manage to achieve early child education as well as higher education.

The Arab Open University - A non Profit Organization

AGFUND took the initiative to create the Arab Open University when it felt the need for Arab populations to enlarge the scope of their practices and to enhance their social performances. This was achieved through the installation and conception of new systems that apply and adopt higher educational programs based on new sources of modern communication technologies...

The Arab Open University (AOU) is a non-profit organization that was launched in the year 2002. It adopts a pattern of on line distant open education,  integrating traditional education and distant and remote education founded on the modern technical  means to facilitate the delivery and the transfer of information to students.

The AOU headquarters are based in the State of Kuwait, and has other representations branches in several Arab states. The AOU proposes flexible educational systems that enables those who missed the opportunity of joining universities, to realize their dreams and enroll in courses, regardless of their age or the date of their secondary school certificate. The AOU also gives exceptional consideration to students with special needs and provides as well financial support through the “STUDENTS FUND” for outstanding students and others that are in need.

AOU - Its Goals

The Open University employs leading and useful techniques to provide equal educational  opportunities. One of its goals is to present high-standard education to a maximum number of Arab students and to contribute to offering practical solutions to concerns of Arab societies. Concerns that are related to major social issues like unemployment, the increasing demand for higher education, facilitating the poor's acquisition of their rights, and improvement of  women's roles in society etc...

Another merit of AGFUND's initiative is that it created a pattern of education in the Arab world that reduces high costs and big fees needed for advanced learning, and hence it reduced the financial burden that Arab governments bear in the field of higher education.

In the Bahrain branch, the  AOU has started a new graduate studies course awarding a Master's Degree. In addition, and in coordination with ministries of education in each country, the AOU launched an initiative to develop the efficiency of public education in Arab states, and organize intensive courses for faculty members in cooperation with the WIDE WORLD program at Harvard University. The goal of this program is to “educate”  educators to help them contribute to future improvements in teaching methodologies, learning techniques, supervision management, and educational leadership and control. The AOU is currently undertaking arrangements to establish two other new branches, in Palestine and in Yemen.
